The Birmingham Police Department re-arrested a murder suspect on Wednesday after a court mistakenly allowed him to post bond and be released.
Terance Alexander, 37, was arrested Tuesday in connection to the murder of Taevion Arnold, 28, who was shot and killed last Friday. A woman was also shot but had non-life-threatening injuries.
The BPD’s Crime Reduction Team initially arrested Alexander in Trussville. He was placed on a 48-hour felony extension at the Birmingham City Jail.
Alexander was charged with murder, first-degree assault, discharging a firearm into an unoccupied building and discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle.
The case was assigned to Judge William A. Bell, Jr. in Jefferson County’s District Court.
The arrest warrant and a court affidavit from District Attorney Danny Carr stated there was no bond on the case.
However, a case action summary filed in court and signed by Circuit Judge Shaunta Owens, stated the magistrate mistakenly set a bond and Alexander was released. The document states Alexander was to have an Aniah’s Law hearing to determine if there would be a bond.
Alexander was captured by police on Wednesday at the corner of 19th Street South and 11th Avenue South.
He was brought back to the Jefferson County Jail, where he is being held without bond.
Alexander is considered innocent until proven guilty.
