The Birmingham Police Department is investigating a double shooting that left one man dead at The Quest Club, a 24/7 LGBTQ club.
Officer Truman Fitzgerald said two people were shot at the location in the 400 block of 24th Street South. Police responded to the call at 6:30 a.m. on Friday and found the victims inside.
Investigators said that officers and patrons rendered aid to the victims.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue arrived on the scene and pronounced one of the men dead. The second man was taken to UAB Hospital. Officials said the second victim had life-threatening injuries.
“We believe that both victims were involved in a physical altercation with one another,” Fitzgerald said. “Detectives are working to determine if either of the victims may have fired shots during this altercation.”
Fitzgerald told 1819 News the shooting and other crimes, including another double shooting in 2022, are cause for safety concerns at the club.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers of Metro Alabama at 205-254-7777. A $5,000 cash reward is being offered.
The Quest Club is advertised as an LGBTQ-owned alternative nightclub with a large dance floor and “the best drag shows every weekend.”
