Birmingham Police chief Michael Pickett addressed the community on Monday following three homicides over the weekend.

"Our hearts go out to the families and loved ones of those lost," Pickett stated. "We extend our deepest condolences and are committed to seeking justice on your behalf."

The three shootings all occurred on Saturday. Pickett said Special Operations teams acted swiftly to solve the crimes.

"I am proud to report that suspects in all three cases were arrested and formally charged within 48 hours," he said. "These rapid results reflect the skill, dedication, and determination of the men and women of the Birmingham Police Department."

While the increased violence claimed three lives, Pickett said the department is focused on being proactive to prevent crime.

"Let me be clear: BPD is still locked in," Pickett said. "If you take a life in our city, we will work relentlessly to find you, and you will be held accountable."

Pickett asked community members to report any information that could help solve crimes in the city.
