The Birmingham Stallions restricted their roster a bit on Thursday with the free agent signings of quarterback Kyle Sloter and tight end La'Michael Pettway. They were signed to replace injured starters J'Mar Smith and Marlon Williams.
The 6-foot-5, 218-pound Sloter began his college career at Southern Miss and finished at Northern Colorado. He has been with eight different NFL franchises but never played in a regular season game. Sloter started nine games for the USFL's New Orleans Breakers last season, throwing for 1,798 yards with nine touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He started four games for the Arlington Renegades in the XFL before being released on March 27.
Pettaway spent four years at the University of Arkansas before finishing his college career at Iowa State. The 6-foot-2, 225-pound Pettway had 24 catches for 307 yards with two touchdowns last season with the Michigan Panthers in the USFL.
Smith, Williams and fullback Bobby Holly were placed on the injured reserve list this week with season-ending injuries suffered in the season-opening win over the New Jersey Generals. The injury news got worse on Thursday as running back Bo Scarborough joined them on the injured reserve list.
Running back ZaQuandre White, wide receiver Adrian Hardy, tight end Thaddeus Moss, offensive tackle Lukayus McNeil, quarterback Jalen Morton, defensive tackle Khalil Davis, cornerback Donnie Lewis and outside linebacker Elijah Sullivan were moved to the active list. All were inactive for the season opener.
This week's inactive list includes linebacker Scooby Wright III, who suffered a leg injury against New Jersey. Other inactive players this week are Sloter, Pettaway, offensive guard Matt Kaskey and defensive ends Joe Jackson and Darrion Daniels.
