At this week's Birmingham Water Works meeting, significant changes continue as the newly formed regional board moves forward to make the utility reflect its regional management and service area.
The agenda included a resolution to rename the Birmingham Water Works Board. The board will now be known as The City of Birmingham Regional Water Works, more commonly referred to as, or doing business as, Central Alabama Water.
The agenda item read, "Request Board to review and consider approval of the amendment to the Certificate of Incorporation of The Water Works Board of the City of Birmingham."

The vote to amend the Certificate of Incorporation passed with a 5-2 vote; all members from suburban areas voted in favor of the change, while Jarvis Patton, Mayor Randall Woodfin's pick for the board, and Jefferson County Commissioner Sheila Tyson, who was chosen by the City of Birmingham, voted against it.
