Perhaps the craziest games of a crazy Class 7A Region 4 came in Bob Jones’ 48-40 win over Sparkman on Friday night. Sparkman had a shot at a go-ahead field in the final minutes but the attempt was blocked by William Aldridge. Jordan Morrison scooped up the football and raced 80 yards for the game-clinching score.

Bob Jones quarterback Ray Hardy accounted for six touchdowns with five coming on the ground. The teams are coached by brothers, Kelvis White (Bob Jones) and Laron White (Sparkman).

Austin used a come-from-behind 41-33 win over James Clemens to remain on top of the Region 4 standings with a 4-0 record. De’Air Young rushed for four touchdowns and threw for another. Florence remained a step back at 3-1 with a 27-7 win over Huntsville.

With two region games left, Huntsville and Bob Jones are 3-2 and tied for fourth while Sparkman and James are tied for fifth at 2-3.

One more note in the region, Grissom got a 17-7 win over Albertville, which is coached by former Grissom coach Chip English. Grissom scored 34 points in a season-opening win over Russellville. Since then, the Tigers had scored just seven points with four shutout losses.

*Carver-Montgomery 33, Wetumpka 13: Dominant defense was the key as the Wolverines shut down a good Wetumpka offense. Carver-Montgomery quarterback Christian Johnson also threw four touchdown passes with three coming to Marquan Jamerson. Carver-Montgomery (6-1, 4-0) remains on course for a Class 6A Region 2 showdown with Pike Road. Wetumpka falls to 6-2 overall and 3-2 in the region.

*Muscle Shoals 42, Decatur 28: Muscle Shoals used a pair of blocked punts returned for touchdown to capture the important Class 6A Region 7 game. Decatur (6-1, 3-1) lost for the first time this season and fell into a second-place tie with Muscle Shoals. Decatur plays region-leading Hartselle next week.

*Are you ready for the Moody-Leeds showdown next week at Moody? The two rivals are nine miles apart but have played just 14 times on the football field. Both won again on Friday to set up a big-time game next week between a pair of unbeaten teams. Leeds beat Alexandria, 23-7 and Moody knocked off St. Clair County, 42-14.

A quick note about next week: You might want to go out and get in line outside the stadium now if you want to get a seat.

*B.B. Comer took another step toward its first region title since 1995. The Tigers beat Thorsby, 44-16, in a Class 2A Region 4 game. B.B. Comer has a game lead with two region games left to play.

Southeastern clinched at least a tie for its first region football title in program history. The Mustangs remained the lone unbeaten team in Class 2A Region 6 with a 14-12 victory at Locust Fork.

*A pair of individuals had big numbers on Thursday night. Westminster Christian quarterback Brandon Musch accounted for nine touchdowns for the second time this season. He is one of four players tied for second for most touchdowns accounted for in a game, trailing the 11 touchdowns by Brayden Kyle last season. Musch is the only player to account for nine touchdowns twice.

Elba running back Alvin Henderson rushed for 412 yards in a 62-28 win over Georgiana. His rushing total was the 15th best in AHSAA history.
