A Cleveland High School senior has only days to live, according to her family, after being shot in the head at a bonfire gathering over the weekend.
Kimber Mills is hospitalized and her sister stated she is not going to make it.
“I do want to tell you she was only given days,” stated Ashley Mills. “We are waiting on her body to do what it needs to do. Once they declare her brain dead, she will be an organ donor.”
“They told us there was no surgeries they could do to help save her life,” she continued.
Ashley Mills said she was trying to update everyone on social media, but “no one is understanding that she’s not going to make it.”
Students and loved ones gathered Monday morning for a prayer and held a vigil Monday night.
Ashley Mills said over 100 people have shown up at UAB to show support for the family.
“She is so loved by this amazing community she has behind her and the support everyone is giving her,” Ashley Mills said. “She is beyond loved and we are so thankful for everyone who has showed up to support her.”
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said the shooting occurred at 12:24 a.m. Sunday in the 7900 block of Highway 75 in east Jefferson County.
Three others, a 21-year-old male, an 18-year-old male and an 18-year-old female, were also shot and taken to the hospital for treatment.
Steven Tyler Whitehead, 27, was arrested and charged with murder. He is being held in the Jefferson County Jail without bond. Additional charges are pending.
