The United States Coast Guard is investigating a deadly collision involving a commercial tugboat and an aluminum fishing vessel in Colbert County.

The bodies of William Michael Sandlin, 63, and Edison Kim Wallace, 66, were recovered.

The collision occurred at the Riverfront Park area on Saturday evening.

The Colbert County Sheriff’s Office, Colbert County EMA, Sheffield Fire Department, Sheffield Police Department, Tuscumbia Police Department, Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office, Lauderdale County EMA, Florence Police Department, Colbert County EMA Dive Team, Florence Fire Department, Colbert County Rehab Team, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency and local volunteers joined in the search for the bodies. One of the men was found shortly after the accident, and the other man was found on Monday morning. 

“In moments like this, we are reminded of the dedication of our first responders—many of them volunteers—who never hesitate to answer the call, no matter the conditions,” the sheriff’s office stated.
