A body was found Monday in a Phenix City trailer park, nearly a month after a fire destroyed a mobile home near Fort Mitchell.
According to Captain Darrell Lassiter of the Phenix City Police Department (PCPD), the fire happened at 233 Logan Drive, on May 9.
Workers found the body while cleaning up the damage.
Mae Evans-Lee, the property manager at Highridge Mobile Home Park, where the fire occurred, said the mobile home owner was Daniel Diaz.
Mount Olive Assistant Fire Chief Jermaine Phillips told WTVM that he believed Diaz caught his own house on fire.
Evans-Lee said Diaz was a long-term tenant and retiree.
“What happened was terrible, and we all feel for Mr. Diaz and his family,” Evans-Lee said.
