Tuesday, during a House Committee on Homeland Security hearing, U.S. Rep. Dale Strong (R-Huntsville) discussed the drastic reduction in border crossings and overall illegal immigration since President Donald Trump returned to the White House, a little over a year ago.
"The border is now closed," Strong said. "Fentanyl poisonings are down by more than 35%. I remember in April of '23 when then Secretary Mayorkas testified before this very committee that the US border was and I quote, secure, close, quote, and not open. At the same time, under his leadership, illegal alien population surged to over 11 million. They were coming from more than 160 different countries as migrants were released into our country by the millions. That's what the Biden administration, in concert with Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, did to America."
The congressman said the consequences of the Biden administration's failure to enforce immigration laws were "predictable."
"They sold America out. When the United States failed to enforce its border, the winners are not legal immigrants or American communities," Strong continued. "It's the cartels, drug smugglers, human traffickers and violent criminals. We didn't need new laws to stop this crisis. We needed a president willing to enforce the laws already on the books. President Trump did exactly that. Another promise made, and today the number of illegal aliens being released into our country is 0."
Strong added, "That's what it took. A president to make the hard decisions, and America is better because of it."
