Former State Sen. Dick Brewbaker announced his campaign had received the endorsement of Hampton Harris, a former opponent in the race for the second congressional district GOP nomination. Harris came in fourth behind State Sen. Greg Albritton (R-Atmore).

Harris, a local businessman and conservative activist, cited Brewbaker’s ability to win the GOP nomination and defeat his Democratic opponent on November 5.

Harris said, “Dick Brewbaker is a Christian conservative and strong Republican whose core values echo those of Alabama. I believe Senator Brewbaker is the most qualified candidate to change the trajectory the country is headed by representing Alabama's 2nd Congressional District with both honesty and integrity."

Harris is the second former candidate to endorse Brewbaker for the Republican nomination in this race. Wallace Gilberry, who dropped out of the race, also gave Brewbaker his "wholehearted endorsement."

Brewbaker said about Harris' endorsement, “Hampton Harris ran a hard and noble campaign and he represents the future of The Republican Party and Alabama.”

“I’m happy to have his endorsement, and I look forward to winning the Republican nomination," he added.

“Dick has the know-how and tenacity to serve his district by putting the needs and concerns of the people first and politics last,” Brewbaker concluded. “He’s a man of his word whose reputation for Christian values and conservative beliefs precedes him. I'm confident in his ability to represent the 2nd Congressional District and our great state of Alabama."

Brewbaker will face off against Caroleene Dobson, a Montgomery attorney, in the April 16 Republican run-off election.
