Citing the need for increased election security throughout the country, U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) again called for passage of the SAVE America Act during an appearance on "Fox News Sunday."

"People want to know that their elections are safe," she told show host Shannon Bream. "We want to know that our vote counts, and that it is in fact us that gets to vote. I think you see voter ID in 35 to 36 states across the country. We want to work diligently to ensure that we protect and save our election process. So we're going to keep pushing on this. We're going to keep pushing on, making sure that only citizens vote."

Britt noted that non-citizens have been taking part in municipal elections in the nation's capital.

"We are seeing from coast to coast examples of places like in D.C., where non-citizens can vote in city elections. We want to make sure that American elections are for American citizens. So we're going to keep working on what is a pathway forward from that."

Additionally, the lawmaker cited China's tampering in the 2020 presidential election as another key reason to improve election security, as suggested by President Donald Trump in a recent primetime address.

"I think what you've heard from the president obviously was talking about the potential of other actors being involved, and I think we get back to China. China is undermining us at every turn. We're seeing that in Russia. We're seeing that with Iran. I think we need to be clear-eyed and, in a bipartisan way, talk very specifically about the threats of China, whether they're here at home or they're abroad, and that's certainly what I appreciate the president doing," added Britt.

If passed and signed into law, the SAVE America Act would require voters to show proof of citizenship when registering to vote and to present photo identification when casting ballots. Additionally, the bill would end mail-only registrations.
