During Monday's broadcast of “Alabama Morning News with JT,” U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) discussed Saturday's assassination attempt on President Donald Trump at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner.
According to Britt, "despicable rhetoric" from Democratic leadership caused the near-tragic events of Saturday evening.
"This is the third attempt on the President's life in just a few short years," said Britt. "This must end. It is the despicable rhetoric that leads to this. What the people need to understand on the left is when they vilify and say threat to democracy, and they say that we were at war with these people, there are people who are unstable that then take that and run with it. We saw that happen yet again, and there is absolutely no excuse for continuing this behavior."
The legislator called on Democrats to be "more responsible" with their messaging.
"We can disagree on policy all day long. And let's do that. Let's talk about it," Britt stated. "Let's put it in front of the American people. Let's let the American people see both sides to it, and let's figure out a pathway forward. But this, vilification, even afterwards, it tells you how deranged these individuals are. They had signs after this attempt outside, saying, ‘Death to Tyrant,’ and all kinds of stuff. This is a sad moment, yet again, for the United States of America."
Britt added, "Political violence has no place in our democracy, and we should all be able to stand up and say that loudly and then back it up with behavior that supports that."
