"The Schumer shutdown continues," said U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) on Fox Business Network's "The Bottom Line" Wednesday after the Senate failed for the ninth time to pass a funding bill.
"This is more of the same," Britt said. "[W]e see them [Democrats] playing charades and making sure that they're putting on political theater because this boils down to [Senate Minority Leader] Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and his political future. He has seen the left wing of his party take over, and now he is following suit. He is so afraid of his own shadow, that happens to be named AOC, and a primary that may occur next year. And guess who's paying the price? The American people."
Britt said Senate Republicans have put forward a clean continuing resolution to reopen the government, a measure Democrats have voted for 13 times before. Their refusal to pass it now proves its politics matter more to Democrats than the people they serve, Britt said.
"We are sick of it," she said. "We are ready to make sure that we fund the government where people get paychecks."
Britt praised President Donald Trump for how efforts to ensure military servicemen still receive pay during the shutdown and that the Women, Infants, and Children Program doesn't expire.
"At the same time, we see Chuck Schumer just prepping for his No Kings rally on Saturday. So, the focus here couldn't be greater. Ours is on the American people. Their's is about trying to preserve Chuck Schumer in his next election."
Britt said many federal workers, like the Capitol police, are still at risk of not being paid, and veterans may now receive their VA benefits if the shutdown, in its 15th day on Wednesday, continues.
She added, "At the end of the day, this is a political stunt. It's one that's gone on 15 days too long, and the American people are paying the price for Chuck Schumer's insecurities."
