U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) is trying to “set the record straight” on Republicans’ plan for Medicaid and assuage fears of massive cuts stoked by Democrat “fearmongering and dishonesty."
“Mainstream media and the Left continue spreading misinformation about Medicaid. This fearmongering and dishonesty are dangerous,” Britt posted in a long thread on X. “Let’s set the record straight - Republicans are strengthening and preserving this important safety net program.”
Britt said that as many as 2.8 million people are enrolled in two or more government health programs, resulting in an additional $14 billion in waste each year, according to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
She also said the Americans “overwhelmingly” support work requirements for Medicaid, which could save $344 billion over 10 years.
Britt continued in a thread:
Because of blue state money laundering schemes, 1.4 MILLION illegal aliens were receiving government health program benefits, draining resources from U.S. citizens. Those days are over. Your tax dollars will no longer foot the bill for people who shouldn’t be here in the first place.
The only people affected by health care eligibility changes in the Big Beautiful Bill are:
- Illegal aliens
- Able-bodied adults aged 19-64 (without dependents under 14) who are choosing not to work, volunteer, or go to school for only 20 hours a week.
Hardworking taxpayers have been supporting stay-at-home sons for far too long. Democrats supported this out-of-control spending, which put Medicaid on an unsustainable path. Republicans are right-sizing Medicaid to ensure those who truly need support have access now and for generations to come.
Democrats turned Medicaid from a safety net into a hammock. It should be protected for our most vulnerable, and under President Trump’s leadership, hardworking taxpayers will no longer foot the bill for able-bodies [sic] adults sitting around at home.
Here’s the bottom line: Republicans are working to save Medicaid, so our most vulnerable citizens receive the care they deserve.
