Guntersville Mayor Leigh Dollar has recently received an endorsement for reelection from U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery), with the runoff election less than a week away.

A 13-year incumbent, Dollar is facing off against former Democratic State Rep. Jeff McLaughlin in the runoff on September 23, following the general election, which ended in a dead-even tie.

The Marshall County Republican Women Club held a "get out the vote" rally for Dollar Tuesday night, where several local community leaders spoke in her favor, including Britt, who sent a prerecorded video.

"Another great conservative and friend is Leigh Dollar. I have enjoyed working with her as she has strengthened Gunnersville and Marshall County during my time in the Senate," Britt said after praising the club for its political work. "And look, now more than ever, we need strong conservatives that are going to stand for faith, family, freedom and free speech."

She continued, "Look, Leigh has been wonderful, and I want to thank her for visiting with this group and patriots that are in the room this evening. I wish I could be there with all of you. But guys, thank you for what you do. God bless you. God bless our great state and our great nation. Continue to join me in prayer as we look to make sure that we preserve the America we know and love for generations to come."
