During a Wednesday appearance on Newsmax TV's "The Big Take," U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) discussed the SAVE America Act, which would require voters to show proof of citizenship when registering to vote, as well as photo identification for casting ballots.

The show's host, Ed Henry, asked Britt about Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer's (D-N.Y.) continuing characterization of the legislation as "racist."

"It is absolutely not. Look, this is yet another example of Democrats being on the wrong side of an 80-20 issue," said Britt. "We saw it with immigration and securing the border. We saw it with boys playing in girls' sports. Just actual ridiculousness. When it comes to transgender children, allowing mutalization of bodies, it's just unbelievable, and this is yet another example of it."

Britt argued the SAVE America Act will allow voters peace of mind and increase their trust in America's elections.

"I spoke with President Trump, and this is his top priority," continued Britt. "Ensuring that every American has the opportunity to vote, and that they can make sure that the safety and security of that vote is seen through. And this is how we do it. We do it by making sure that we have citizens who are actually the ones who are registering to vote, and that you show that ID, so that when you go in to pull your ballot, they know it's you. I mean, think about this. What if you got to the ballot box, and asked for that ID, and they said, "It's already been taken." We don't want people to steal your property. We certainly don't want them to steal your vote."

Britt added, "This gives Americans certainty that their elections are free and fair, and it is an 80-20 issue."

Britt credited U.S. Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) with leading the effort to pass the legislation, noting the bill's growing momentum in the Senate.

"So I am unsure what Schumer is saying about this, but what I do know is the American people are with us. President Trump is on a mission, and I am really proud of my colleague, Mike Lee, for continuing to push this. I think he's continuing to build momentum."

"The American public is helping us bring this to the forefront, and so we have to keep going," Britt concluded.
