On Wednesday, President-elect Donald Trump announced a cease-fire deal had been reached in Gaza between Israel and Hamas to release Israeli hostages.

Not long after the announcement, Auburn basketball coach Bruce Pearl, a Jewish-American who has been very vocal about protecting Israel, praised the incoming president's efforts to support Israel and said Trump would help Israel "defeat her enemies sworn to destroy her."

"Negotiating with terrorists who have taken hostages puts everyone of us at risk. Israel has a tough call to make. And getting a 'good deal' with Hamas is not possible which makes the decision even harder. The positives are to get some innocents home and in working together, puts the US and Israel, President Trump and Bibi, back on a tract for better relations," Pearl wrote on X on Wednesday.

"Hamas is likely to break the deal anyway, allowing Israel to return to Gaza and finish the job," he continued. "In the meantime the IDF can come home and recover. My heart breaks for all the courageous soldiers lost or wounded in battle defending Israel's right to exist. Israel can then focus on clearing out Hamas in Judea and Samaria and have more eyes on Lebanon. Syria, Yemen and Iran. Accepting a less than perfect deal will be appreciated by many, including the hostages and their families. It also can help the process of expanding the Abraham Accords for peace and prosperity. I believe Prime Minister Netanyahu is the best person to make this call! I believe President Trump will support Israel and help her defeat her enemies sworn to destroy her. I Just pray we can get all the hostages home soon, defeat this enemy! And stop talking about rewarding barbaric behavior with the creation of another terrorist state!"
