According to a Department of Justice announcement on Thursday, Brundidge Police chief Samuel Green was charged with 13 counts in an indictment for alleged roles in a scheme to defraud the federal government.

The indictment alleges Samuel Cornelius Green, 50, Sharon Jones Green, 53, and Schemillia Levera Fenn, 40, participated in a scheme to receive funds through the COVID-era Emergency Rental Assistance Program.

Green's charges include one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering, three counts of money laundering, one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, six counts of wire fraud and two counts of aggravated identity theft.

All three were taken into custody by U.S. Marshals on Thursday and transported to the Montgomery federal courthouse.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Michelle Turner is prosecuting the case.
