The Baldwin County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) called in Homeland Security Investigations after dozens of bundles of cocaine washed ashore Thursday.

The bundle contained 50 individually wrapped kilos of cocaine, the sheriff's office said.

The BCSO Coastal Enforcement Unit responded to the scene on the Fort Morgan Peninsula to investigate. After transporting the drugs to the Investigations Command for further analysis, the sheriff's office called federal agents to continue the investigation.

"It is not uncommon for additional bundles of illicit contraband to surface, and Sheriff Lowery asks the community to report any bundles immediately to local law enforcement," the BCSO said in a statement. "We ask the public not to open bundles or packages, as they could contain hazardous chemicals or dangerous drugs."
