It’s spicy. It’s fun. And it’s all for a great cause.
You are invited to the eighth annual "Downtown Cajun Cook-off" in Mobile’s Cathedral Square on Saturday, March 23. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
There will be something to tickle all of the senses.
Music will include "Phil & Foster" (“Always fresh. Never frozen”) and "The Red Field."
Food will be cooked by professional and amateur chefs.
The setting is right to transport a piece of Southwest Louisiana to Alabama. Cathedral Square is in front of Alabama’s largest Catholic Church, the ornate Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. The square will be transformed into a gathering of Cajun kitchens. You can smell it a mile away. The distinctive smell may be the best advertisement for the event.
Professional chefs, media personalities, bar personalities from the nearby Lower Dauphin Street (LoDa) entertainment district, politicians trying(?) to cook and rank amateurs will compete.
Tickets on site are $20. Advance purchases, online and by credit card, cost $18. You can save and pay only $15 by going to an advance ticket location: The Child Advocacy Center, Arrow Exterminators, Bebo’s at Springhill Market and Olensky Brothers downtown.
Ticket purchase can be found here.
The reason for the seasoning: The mission of the Child Advocacy Center. Details here.
The founding sponsor of the Downtown Cajun Cook-offs is the Cunningham Bounds personal injury law firm in Mobile.
