A former Jefferson County deputy charged after a crash that injured three people, including herself, has waived her right to a pretrial hearing.

Shamonte D. Lanfair, 34, is charged with two counts of first-degree assault. The case will now go to a grand jury.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency investigated the October 2025 crash on Alabama 75. According to a complaint, Lanfair was suspected of being under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. Lanfair’s car ran a red light and struck another vehicle driven by a woman who had her little brother in the back seat. The driver and the child suffered serious injuries.

The grand jury will hear evidence against Lanfair to determine whether to issue an indictment.

Lanfair is considered innocent until proven guilty.
