Despite winning the most votes in the GOP primary Tuesday for the seventh congressional district after having already dropped out of the race, Christian Horn still believes the election process is rigged against Republicans.
While Horn is thankful for all of the votes, he said there is no way a Republican will win in November, which is why he decided to leave the race in the first place.
"Your participation exemplifies the very essence of Democracy, America First and it is with great pleasure that I inform you of our great electoral primary victory, and our withdrawal from the rigged CD 7 election," Horn said in a letter to constituents.
While he won the primary with 58% of the vote, Horn said he believes the federal courts rigged the system to ensure a Democrat will win in November.
"100% the November 2024 General Election is fixed by the federal court for a Democrat to win, which violates election integrity before the November election," Horn said.
Horn explained the scheme was set into action when congressional maps were redrawn "through the exclusive use of race to draw congressional maps, secure a seat for 'black voters' who most frequently vote Democratic and will again in 2024."
As a black Republican, Horn told 1819 News he was offended.
"They said there were no candidates that black people had to vote for," Horn said. "And to me that's horrible."
"[I] t's extremely offensive," he continued. "I am extremely offended. My heritage is from congressional district 7 and you have people who look like me who voted for me … I am so offended. I'm so hurt."
Horn's campaign received information from voter map data in late January, and he said that's when he realized he didn't have a chance. After looking further into computer-generating maps by the federal court, Horn said the big problem was that active registered voters were not considered over the voting age population numbers.
Things were already confusing for voters, Horn said, because the county sent out thousands of inaccurate voter cards showing they would be voting in another district.
"Just because people are old enough to vote does not mean they register and decide to vote," Horn added. "… It makes me feel like the federal judges were Jim Crow in blackface. The republican party was started to free the slaves and to promote liberty and freedom to all. This is not that."
"They chose winners and losers before the November election," he continued. "That's what they did."
A former Michigan fullback, Horn said Democrats were getting two touchdowns for every one touchdown Republicans get.
"While about 30,000 CD 7 active registered Republicans cast their votes on March 5, 2024, a staggering 61,000 CD 7 active registered Democrats participated in the partisan electoral process," he said in the letter. "These numbers speak volumes, will not change by November and highlight the inherent biases that have plagued our electoral system, using Federal Judges to choose winners and losers BEFORE the General Election in November."
He stands behind his decision to withdraw from the race.
Horn said he has done outreach and engagement for the Republican party for years and has done a lot of work for the party and now he feels like some in his own party are saying he doesn't exist. He believes Republican-appointed federal judges tried to make him a ghost in his own party.
"Black people vote on values, they vote on kitchen table issues, the economics, they vote their faith and they're not unilateral," said Horn. "Everyone is not a democrat."
"Alabama just voted out Jim Crow race-based federal judge decisions," he continued. "Christian Horn is the very first Alabama descendant of slavery to win at the Republican congressional ballot box since the 1880s, and that is a victory for all of Alabama no matter the Race. Once again, I extend my deepest gratitude to each and every one of you for your unwavering support and commitment to our cause."
The Alabama GOP released a statement thanking Horn for serving.
"We want to thank Christian Horn for his heart to serve Alabama, and we wish him luck in the next chapter of his life," the statement said in part.
Horn said he will continue to advance Republican values and principles through alternative avenues.
Robin Litaker, the runner-up of the Republican primary, will be declared the winner and face U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell (D-Birmingham) in November.
