Wednesday afternoon, the Central Alabama Water Board announced that it will hold a special-called meeting on Thursday to retain Jeffrey F. Thompson as chief executive officer of Central Alabama Water.
Thompson previously worked for Birmingham Water Works for about 3.5 years, from 2019 to 2023.
According to the announcement made when he became COO of DC Water in May 2023, "Mr. Thompson is a licensed professional engineer and earned his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Central Florida, and an Executive MBA from The University of Alabama. He began his professional career as a Water Resources Engineer for the Walt Disney Company and has served as a water executive in Central Florida, New England, and Miami before joining Birmingham Water Works, the largest regional utility in Alabama."
News of Thompson's potential hiring drew swift condemnation from Birmingham's Mayor Randall Woodfin.
The meeting will be livestreamed on the CAW’s Facebook page here..
