When a teenager posts something on social media and captions it, “My mom doesn’t know I’m doing this,” there should be cause for concern. In this case, there was – but not in the usual context.
It started in mid-to-late April. Fifteen-year-old Will Roberts quietly took over his mom Brittney’s Facebook page. He wasn’t pulling a prank or filming the latest TikTok trend. He was issuing a battle cry. Will secretly posted a video to his mom’s account with a direct appeal to the president of the United States.
Read that again. As unbelievable as it sounds, it worked.
Refusing to surrender, he asked the internet to rally behind him and amplify his message until it reached the halls of the West Wing. A 15-year-old boy who should have been out fishing with his friends instead looked straight into a camera with one simple request: Share my story.
People listened.
The video reached millions, and Will’s determination ultimately helped him gain access to a promising treatment called DeltaRex-G. But perhaps the most remarkable part of Will’s message wasn’t what he wanted for himself – it was what he wanted for others. In that same video, Will said, “If this can help other kids with my cancer, I would love to help.” Even while facing fear and uncertainty, his heart was focused on children he had never met.
That was Will.
His story is one of determination, faith, courage, selflessness, strength and impact. But above all, it is a story of victory. Cancer never took his spirit, it never took his compassion, and it never silenced his voice.
Today, countless people are grieving the loss of the young champion for whom we all came to cheer. He stood up not just for himself, but for children across this country and around the world who are fighting the same battle.
His story does not end here. This is only the beginning of his legacy.
Live with courage. Love others well. Stand up for what matters. Keep your family close. Inspire your peers. Lean on God.
