Cullman County native and longtime deputy Chad Whaley won 67% of the votes and will become the county’s next sheriff.
Whaley, who ran against Tim Creel for the county’s top law enforcement job, began his career with the sheriff’s office in 1999. He has worked as a detention deputy, patrol deputy and supervisor, SWAT Team member and leader, defensive tactics instructor, school resource officer, active shooter response instructor and public information officer.
“Together, we can keep Cullman County special,” was Whaley’s campaign slogan. He vowed to lead the sheriff’s office with transparency, accountability and dedication to the people.
Whaley will not face an opponent in the November general election.
Cullman County Sheriff Matt Gentry is stepping away from the sheriff's office. He won Tuesday's Republican primary election for Public Service Commission Place 1.
