Chance McCurley defeated incumbent Opp Mayor Becky Bracke on Tuesday in the city’s runoff election.

According to unofficial results, McCurley defeated Bracke by a margin of 824 to 623 votes.

McCurley said on Facebook, “Tonight, our town made history — and I am deeply humbled and grateful to be elected as your next Mayor.”

“From the very beginning, this campaign wasn’t about me. It was about all of us — neighbors, friends, families, and a community that believes in a brighter future. Every honk, every wave, every conversation at a doorstep, every word of encouragement, and every single vote made this moment possible,” McCurley said. “To my family, friends, and volunteers — thank you for standing beside me every step of the way. To the voters of Opp — thank you for trusting me with this responsibility. The work begins now. Together, we will build safer streets, attract new businesses, support our youth, and revitalize the heart of our hometown. Most of all, we’ll continue to make Opp a place we are proud to call home — and a place our children and grandchildren will want to return to. This victory belongs to all of us. Let’s move forward, united, with hope, energy, and vision for a Better Opp.”
