Mobile Fire-Rescue Department confirmed an accidental fire on Christmas Day damaged six apartments and displaced 11 people.
The fire department was called to the 3200 block of Pleasant Valley Road at 7:19 a.m. As firefighters arrived, they saw heavy smoke coming from the second floor.
The fire department dispatched two district chiefs, five engines, two trucks and two other support vehicles.
Crews were able to distinguish the flames and no one was injured. A dog and two cats were rescued from the building.
They continued to monitor hot spots throughout the day. Crews also performed salvage and overhaul operations to protect the remaining property.
An investigation showed the fire was accidental.
The Red Cross responded to assist six families impacted.
