Gadsden Mayor Craig Ford said new plans for Christmas have been set, and he hopes people make the city a destination for the holidays.

“Christmas in Gadsden, you can’t beat it,” Ford said. “I’ll put it up against any city in the country.”

The city’s Christmas parade will be on December 5. Ford said from now on, Gadsden will make it a tradition to hold the parade on the first Friday of December, to mirror the city’s First Friday events that are held during warmer months.

Christmas on the Coosa will be held on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, November 26. The Christmas tree will be lit at the ice-skating rink on Riverside Park.

“We hope it will be a great event,” Ford said. “If you have relatives coming in, you can have them come and see the lighting of the Christmas tree that Wednesday night and then we’ll open up the ice-skating rink. That’s going to be a lot of fun.”

The Christmas parade will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Broad Street and will travel from 7th Street to 2nd Street.
