Lifetime Cullman County resident and Smith Lake realtor Cindy Myrex announced her intent to run for the Alabama House of Representatives.
The District 12 seat will be vacant after State Rep. Corey Harbison (R-Good Hope) resigns to spend more time with family.
"Living in this community, filled with generations of genuine, nurturing and God-fearing families, I am always glad to call Cullman County, Cold Springs and Smith Lake my home," Myrex stated.
"Thirty-Eight years of marriage I was a stay-at-home wife and mom for 18 years and now starting 19th season of selling real estate on Smith Lake and Cullman County," she continued. "I have been lucky enough to have the best of both worlds. To say I am blessed and thankful would be an understatement."
Myrex, who is running on the conservative "faith, family, freedom" platform, served as an alternate delegate at the 2024 Republican National Convention. She was also part of the Alabama Strike Force and serves on the State Executive Committee for the Cullman County Republican Party.
She told 1819 News that she wanted to go to Montgomery to ensure that bills that would positively impact families were passed.
"Every law that is passed down there impacts all of Alabama," Myrex said. "I don't know that people truly understand the impact that these folks have."
"Cullman is very traditional, very hometown," she added. "We're very family-connected, so I want to take that to the table."
A special election date will be announced by Gov. Kay Ivey, pending Harbison's official resignation.
Harbison said he does not plan on endorsing any candidate to fill his seat.
