An 11-year-old Clanton boy was honored on Monday night for his quick thinking and courage that helped his 88-year-old neighbor, who got stuck underneath a car.
According to a report by WBRC, Caleb McKee was playing in his yard last month when he heard his neighbor, Ms. Wright, crying out for help. McKee ran over to find Ms. Wright, who was pinned to the ground because her car had rolled on top of her.
Acting quickly, McKee ran inside, grabbed a phone and dialed 911 because his parents were both at work.
“They said they were sending everything—firefighters, paramedics, police,” McKee told WBRC.
McKee didn't know Wright's exact address, but emergency responders still arrived quickly.
Responders used logs and a jack to lift the car off Wright and free her.
McKee remained by Wright's side until everyone left.
“It was graphic—not something everybody should see,” he told the outlet.
Mike and Leigh McKee told WBRC that their son, Caleb, showed great bravery and composure in a moment of crisis.
“For an 11-year-old to stay that calm—we were really proud,” Mike McKee stated.
Later that evening, the McKees prayed for Wright and reflected on the day's events.
“There’s no doubt God was working that day,” Leigh McKee said. “Normally, Caleb wouldn’t have even been home. But everything lined up. It was a miracle.”
Wright suffered multiple broken bones from the incident and has one more surgery scheduled. She later visited the McKees to thank Caleb in person.
