Clay Webber will be the next Marshall County Schools superintendent after defeating incumbent Cindy Wigley in Tuesday's Republican primary runoff.
Webber nearly doubled the amount of votes Wigley received, at 4,122 (66.4%) and 2,088 (33.6%), respectively, according to unofficial results on the Marshall County website.
Webber is the current principal of Asbury High School, and Wigley has served as superintendent since 2015.
Webber thanked his supporters and said he is ready to get to work.
Thank you, Marshall County, from the bottom of my heart, for your support, your encouragement, your prayers, and your vote. I am deeply honored and humbled by the trust you have placed in me to serve as the next Marshall County Superintendent.
I want to thank the Lord, for without Him, none of this would be possible. The things that are impossible with man are possible with God. I want to thank my family for their unwavering support, the countless volunteers who gave their time and energy, and every person who shared our vision for a stronger future. I am also grateful to all who participated in this election process. Now is the time to come together and move forward in unity for the benefit of our students.
Thank you, Marshall County. I am honored to serve you, and I look forward to getting to work.
Wigley posted a statement on Facebook following the loss:
I want to thank everyone who supported, encouraged, volunteered, prayed for, and believed in me throughout this last year. I am incredibly proud of the campaign we ran with integrity, dignity, respect, and a genuine commitment to serve Marshall County.
Serving our communities has been one of the greatest honors of my life. I am proud of the work we have accomplished together, and I remain grateful for the opportunity I have had to serve.
Over three decades, I have had the privilege of working alongside incredible students, educators, board members, families, and leaders throughout our communities. These relationships and experiences will always be with me.
For many years, I have dedicated my heart to public education and to the children of our schools. I am proud of the progress we have made together.
I leave this campaign with gratitude, pride, and deep appreciation for the opportunity to have served. I am humbled by your support. Thank you for allowing me to be part of your lives and your children’s futures, as this has always been the greatest reward.
May God continue to bless our students, schools, communities, and all those who serve them.
