The man who shot and killed Tammy Wedgeworth on New Year's Day in 2022 will spend the rest of his life in prison.

The Mobile County District Attorney's Office announced the sentencing of Kenneth Colburn to life without the possibility of parole.

Colburn pleaded guilty to the intentional murder of Wedgeworth.

Court documents show Wedgeworth, from Fairhope, offered Colburn a ride home from a party. Colburn got into the truck and pulled a gun on the victim, attempting to rob her of her vehicle.

He then shot her multiple times and left her in a ditch on Eliza Jordan Road under a piece of plywood.

"This was a horrific act of violence committed by the defendant," said Mobile County District Attorney Keith Blackwood. "Kenneth Colburn will spend the rest of his life in prison because of his cold-hearted actions on January 1, 2022."

The State was represented by Assistant District Attorneys Madison Davis and Stuart Lang as well as Trial Coordinator Amanda Sumrall.
