Riley McArdle, chairman of the College Republican Federation of Alabama, penned a letter to University of Alabama President Dr. Peter Mohler on Thursday, calling on the school to terminate any employee who is found to have made mocking public comments regarding the political assassination of conservative political activist and Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk.

While Auburn University terminated multiple employees last week over comments celebrating or mocking the political assassination of Charlie Kirk, the University of Alabama, so far, has taken no public action against journalism professor A.J. Bauer, who incorrectly said the assassination was the result of "right on right violence."

"As a student at the University of Alabama and an eighth-generation Alabamian, I can say with certainty that the comments made on social media by employees of this University run directly counter to the values we hold so dear in this state. Any Alabamian with an ounce of decency would never mock the brutal public execution of an innocent man in front of his wife, children, and thousands of college students," McArdle wrote. "President Mohler, you have a duty to demonstrate moral clarity in this moment and show the people of Alabama that you will not sit idly by as the University of Alabama, an institution that has made our state proud for nearly two centuries, falls to depravity and is publicly embarrassed by deeply evil academic activists. That said, I urge you to immediately terminate the employment of A.J. Bauer, Rahim Thawer, Jaimie Tangman, and any other University employee who is found to have made such vile comments regarding Mr. Kirk's murder."

McArdle, the elected representative of college students across Alabama to the Alabama Republican Party's Steering Committee, joins a growing list of Alabama political leaders who have called on the University of Alabama to fire these individuals.

The College Republican Federation of Alabama is the parent organization of all College Republican chapters in Alabama, with official recognition of the Alabama Republican Party. Riley McArdle has served as CRFA chairman since April 16, having previously served as CRFA vice chairman and chairman of The University of Alabama College Republicans.
