Alabama Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries Rick Pate qualified last week to run as a Republican in the state's upcoming lieutenant governor's race.

"I have seen how I was able to make a difference in the lives of Alabamians and I would like to continue in my efforts toward that goal as Lt. Governor," said Pate. "Alabama has made great progress in recent years in expanding our workforce development programs and focusing on labor force participation."

"I am the only candidate with the experience to sustain and build upon that momentum," he added.

Pate's campaign and its partners are highlighting the official's "common sense approach" to leadership and business acumen.

A “Business Partners for Rick Pate” coalition member and chairman and CEO of W.K. Upchurch Construction, Ken Upchurch, praised Pate's business experience and record of success.

"The business community needs a doer, not a talker serving as lieutenant governor, and Rick Pate is the only candidate who has signed the front of a paycheck so others can sign the back," Upchurch said. "Rick Pate has demonstrated the grit and determination that is required to start and build a successful business, and he has firsthand knowledge of the challenges and concerns that business owners face on a daily basis."

Prior to serving as Ag Commissioner, Pate founded and operated Pate Landscape Co.
