University of Alabama defensive coordinator Kevin Steele and offensive coordinator Tommy Rees will receive three-year contracts worth $1.9 million annually. Approval of their contracts came on Monday during a video conference of the UA Board of Trustees compensation committee.

Rees' pay is scheduled to increase to $2 million in March 2024 and $2.1 million in March 2025. Steele's pay is slated to remain at $1.9 throughout the life of the contract, which expires on Feb. 28, 2026.  

Initial contracts or contract extensions were also approved for nine other members of the University of Alabama football staff. Each of the extensions came with a raise.

David Ballou, director of sports performance, had his contract extended for two years with a pay rate of $725,000 annually. One-year extensions were given to tight end coach Joe Cox ($425,000), running back coach Robert Gillespie ($625,000), outside linebacker coach Coleman Hutzler ($595,000), defensive line coach Freddie Roach ($775,000), wide receiver coach Holmon Wiggins ($875,000), offensive line coach Eric Wolford ($925,000) and Director of Player Personnel Bob Welton ($255,000). Inside linebacker coach Robert Bala was given a two-year contract with an annual salary of $350,000.
