The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office released the identities of two people found dead in a Hoover home on Tuesday morning.

Christina Nicole Chambers, 38, and Johnny Rimes, Jr., 41, were pronounced dead at 9:12 a.m. inside their home in the 700 block of Highland Manor Court.

Coroner Bill Yates determined the deaths likely occurred between 6:15 a.m. and 9:03 a.m. Hoover Police responded to the home after a family member found the husband and wife unresponsive.

Detectives believe the two were shot in an apparent murder/suicide.

The couple’s three-year-old son was found at the home unharmed.

Chambers was a longtime sports reporter at WBRC in Birmingham. The coroner stated she “sustained gunshot wound injuries during a reported domestic assault.”

The circumstances surrounding the death of Rimes are reported as “a gunshot wound injury during a reported domestic assault.”

WBRC reported Chambers continued to do freelance work after leaving her full-time position at the station.

“She was one of the sweetest, most loving people that I know,” said WBRC anchor Jeh Jeh Pruitt. “She was relentless with running, loving her son, and loving life. I am glad I got a chance to hug and tell her I love her a week ago at the Super 7. I am so sorry for her family, the Chambers and Thompson Families, and her WBRC Family.”

Chambers also taught broadcast journalism at Thompson High School from 2021 to 2025.

“As a beloved member of the Warrior Nation Network, Christina brought her deep knowledge and love of sports reporting to Friday nights, leaving a lasting impression on students, colleagues, and viewers alike,” Alabaster City Schools Superintendent Wayne Vickers stated. “She was a cherished part of the Warrior family, and we extend our heartfelt thoughts and prayers to all who are grieving this profound loss."
