The Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC) recently announced that St. Clair Correctional Facility Lt. Calvin Bush was arrested last week and has been placed on mandatory leave pending dismissal after an ongoing investigation yielded pounds of various illegal drugs.
The ADOC Law Enforcement Services Division, which includes narcotics, criminal and K-9, executed a search warrant and arrested Bush as part of an ongoing investigation into individuals suspected of smuggling contraband into prison facilities
On Thursday, July 31, ADOC narcotics agents executed a search warrant at a residence in Odenville. During the search, agents recovered the following:
- 8.9 pounds of methamphetamine.
- 19 pounds of marijuana.
- 100 grams of Crack cocaine.
- 16 grams of powder cocaine.
- 326 grams of paper sprayed with synthetic drugs.
- 156 cell phones.
- Two cellular hotspots.
- 610 grams of Flakka precursor powder.
- 350 grams of Promethazine.
- 340 grams of synthetic cannabinoid.
- Nine Oxycodone pills.
In a related search, officers also discovered 2.5 pounds of marijuana and 60 grams of methamphetamine.
“This operation demonstrates a continued commitment to fighting the smuggling of illegal drugs and contraband into our correctional facilities,” said ADOC commissioner John Hamm. “Prison violence is directly impacted by the flow of illegal drugs.”
Bush is charged with trafficking methamphetamine and trafficking marijuana. ADOC agents are still working to identify additional individuals involved in the operation.
Several agencies were involved in the operation, including the ATF, DEA, Alabama Drug Enforcement Task Force, St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office, St. Clair District Attorney’s Office, Odenville Police Department and Margaret Police Department.
