A Cottage Hill Christian Academy teacher is facing charges in connection with a video circulating on social media that allegedly shows the beating of a child.
Randi Nichole Staples was arrested and charged with willful abuse, according to the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office.
Someone sent the video to the sheriff’s office claiming it showed Staples abusing her own child.

The video was made inside a home. You can hear the woman in the video yelling and cursing at the child. The beating was allegedly over the child not cleaning up after himself. The woman hit the boy with a belt 23 times, then slung him to the ground by the hair, made him stand up, and hit him again while yelling.
Cottage Hill Christian Academy placed Staples on administrative leave with pay after receiving the video.
“We just became aware of an incident that occurred off-campus prior to today,” the school stated. “Authorities were notified and are investigating. The teacher in question has been placed on administrative leave with pay and relieved of her duties.”
Staples is considered innocent until proven guilty.
