Earlier this week, two Chinese nationals were charged with smuggling a toxic fungus into the United States capable of destroying crops and poisoning humans and livestock.

During an appearance on Wednesday's broadcast of Fox Business Network's "Kudlow," Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) reacted to the report, calling it "COVID 2.0."

Alabama's junior U.S. Senator said the news underscored the threat from the Communist Chinese and credited President Donald Trump's efforts to combat the threat.

"It's COVID 2.0," Britt said. "When you look at what China's intentions on us are, I mean, they are clearly our greatest adversary and threat. And if you think about what this could do, what it could do to our supply chain, our food supply chain, what it means for national security, it is unbelievable."

She continued, "We have to get to the bottom of it. We have to call it what it is, and then we have to hold these people accountable," she continued. "I mean, the CCP undermines at every turn, whether it's undermining the American worker, which, thank goodness, President Trump is finally holding them accountable for, leveling the playing field for American workers. I mean, I am of the belief if you put us on a level playing field, we'll outperform every one, every single time."

"Or whether that it's stealing our intellectual property, or things like we saw during COVID or are seeing here today," Britt added. "It is clear the Chinese Communist Party is our ultimate threat. I think we have to call it what it is, and then we have to hold these people accountable."
