HUNTSVILLE On Tuesday afternoon, U.S. Rep. Dale Strong (R-Huntsville) spoke to reporters about the record-length government shutdown and its direct connection to Democratic hatred of President Donald Trump.

The lawmaker noted that a continuing resolution, unsuccessfully introduced by Republicans, to keep the government open was passed by Democrats more than a dozen times during the Biden administration. Strong said the difference this time came down to one factor.

"There was no sense in this government shutdown. Thirteen times Democrats and Republicans had voted together under the Biden administration to do a clean CR, and for some reason, they hate Donald Trump with every fiber in them," Strong said. "And so whether it's good, whether it's not good, they're going to be against him at every turn."

Strong believes voters, including Democrats, can "see through" costly tactics used by the left to keep the government shutdown at the expense of everyday Americans.

"I can tell you this right here, there is disarray in the Democratic Party, and so those that are disgruntled with it, take a good look at the Republican Party. We've got a vision," Strong noted. "We've got a president who is leading, moving forward, doing trade agreements and putting America first. "

"If we can find one or two Democrats to vote for this, I encourage them to join us, because it's good for America."

Strong said he was excited to return to Washington, D.C., to help reopen the government for the American people.

"We're glad to get back. Our brightest hours are still ahead of us, but we've got to get back to work," he said. "This was totally preventable. Never should have happened. And again, the thing that I'm most elated about is that we're going to D.C. now that the Senate has acted, the House will take care of business when we get there."
