State Rep. Matt Simpson (R-Daphne) lost Tuesday’s primary to Danielle Duggar, a Baldwin County mother who has fought for medical freedom since the COVID-19 pandemic.

Duggar won with 51% of the votes to Simpson’s 49%.

“I want to thank the people of District 96,” Simpson stated on Facebook. “It has been an honor to serve the last 8 years in the Alabama House of Representatives.”

During his time in office, Simpson, a prosecutor in both Baldwin and Mobile Counties, has introduced bills in Montgomery to strengthen the prosecution of crimes. Most recently, he sponsored the Child Predator Death Penalty Act, which was signed into law.

This was the second time Duggar ran against Simpson for the Alabama House District 96 seat. In 2022, she lost the Republican primary by 662 votes.

After hearing of her victory Tuesday night, Duggar stated, "To God be all the glory. Tonight’s victory belongs first to Him, and I am deeply grateful for His hand over this campaign every step of the way."

Duggar ran on a platform of protecting children, the Second Amendment, medical freedom and limiting government overreach. Her campaign is focused on "faith, family and freedom – not politics."
