A Daphne family is starting the year thankful after a near tragedy changed the trajectory of their new year.
Cleighton Strickland, a recent Daphne High School graduate, was involved in a crash that left him with life-threatening injuries. The crash occurred on November 5 in Auburn, where he had just moved with his brother. He suffered a traumatic brain injury and will now have to undergo therapies to regain his strength and abilities.
Meanwhile, his mother, Amy Strickland, says the outpouring of support has been overwhelming.
"It's been amazing and humbling the things that everyone has done," said Amy Strickland. "It has been mind-boggling and such a blessing. This has been such a catastrophe but people have just come together to believe with us. Amazing."
The Daphne High School baseball team started a fundraiser by selling T-shirts with the slogan #LetsGoSon, which Amy Strickland said she always yelled when her son was playing baseball.
Amy Strickland is thankful for those standing by her son and cheering him on, including his brother, Gregory, and his girlfriend, Mary Claire, who has often traveled from Daphne to the Shepherd Center in Atlanta to be with him.
