Jared Tarant Smith-Bracy, the man charged with capital murder in the Feb. 22, 2023, deaths of four people in Daphne, was indicted by a grand jury during its May session.
Investigators presented evidence that Smith-Bracy killed three of the victims in the backyard of a home with a gun and pickax. The fourth victim was found bludgeoned inside the home.
The victims in the case were Smith-Bracy's brother, Jeremy Smith, 27, and his grandparents, Barbara Smith, 72, and Leonard Smith, 80, and family friend Sheila Glover, 70.
Smith-Bracy has undergone two mental evaluations. His attorneys said he is unable to make rational and informed decisions on his mental health treatment while in the Baldwin County Jail. They claim he will eventually be able to be treated and be competent enough for trial.
He remains in jail without bond.
