Travis Lofton, the man convicted for the shooting death of Jason Mallette at the Daphne Taziki's Mediterranean Café, has been sentenced to life in prison.

Mallette, who worked at Taziki's, was shot in the chest as he arrived to open the restaurant in 2023.

Investigators used evidence at the scene, video surveillance and witness statements to determine the suspect was Lofton. Lofton's wife, Aerial Allen, also works at Taziki's. Prosecutors said she made up a story about Mallette raping her, leading to the shooting.

After being booked into the Baldwin County Jail, Lofton, who has a history of drug charges, was let out after posting bond. He was then arrested in Mobile for trafficking fentanyl.

In November 2024, Lofton was found guilty of intentional murder after only two hours of jury deliberations.

His attorneys are expected to appeal the conviction.
