The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is investigating a hit-and-run that occurred in Smiths Station on Wednesday.

James Gabbard, 35, is charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, improper passing, driving with a suspended license and leaving the scene of an accident with injuries.

WTVM obtained dashcam video from another driver showing the moment of impact. The vehicle veered towards the teens, who were walking beside the road, sending them both flying. While one teen remained on the ground, the other chased after the vehicle. However, the driver fled the scene.

The incident happened in the 9200 block of Lee Road 240. One of the teens was transported to the hospital for treatment, while the other refused transport.

Gabbard was arrested but bonded out. He was then re-arrested on a warrant for an unrelated charge.
