Scores:

Class 6A girls semifinals: Hazel Green 49, McGill-Toolen 22; Huffman 56, Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa 50.

Class 6A boys semifinals: Buckhorn 65, McGill-Toolen 57; Mountain Brook 54, Paul Bryant 52.

Class 5A boys semifinals: Charles Henderson 61, Ramsay 60; Valley 70, Scottsboro 51.

Game of the day (boys): Survive and advance is the objective in postseason play. Mountain Brook's 54-52 semifinal victory over Paul Bryant is a textbook example of that. Paul Bryant was one play away from a come-from-behind victory. However, Mountain Brook made the final play when John Colvin blocked Adrian Wooley's potential game-winning 3-pointer just before the buzzer.

Game of the day (girls): Huffman trailed Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa by as many as 12 points, and the Vikings led for just 2:01 in the game. All that counts, however, is the final scoreboard. Huffman pulled out a gritty 56-50 victory.

Performance of the day (boys): Buckhorn freshman Caleb Holt scored 33 points in the Bucks' 65-57 win over McGill-Toolen. The 6-foot-5 guard had 24 points and nine rebounds in the second half, with nine of the points coming in the fourth quarter. Holt was 8 of 17 from the field and 16 of 19 from the free throw line. He finished with 14 rebounds and five steals.

Performance of the day (girls): Huffman's Tamiria Jones had 21 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals in the semifinal victory. Her younger sister Jamiria Jones had 16 points, six rebounds, three steals, two assists and a blocked shot.
