Days after defeating State Rep. Juandalynn Givan (D-Birmingham), Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin endorsed her challenger in the State House, Alicia Escott Lumpkin.
Woodfin stated, "District 60 deserves better than finger-pointing and excuses. That’s why I’m proud to endorse Alicia Escott Lumpkin – a lifelong Birmingham resident and proven public servant who puts people first."
Lumpkin launched her campaign on May 28.
"I’m not running for attention or chasing titles. I’m running to serve the people of District 60 with the focus, dedication, and follow-through you deserve. This isn’t a pit stop on the way to somewhere else—it’s a calling I take seriously," she said in a Facebook post following her campaign kick-off event.
In a social media post on Thursday, just two days after his win, Woodfin said, "Alicia has the vision and experience to expand opportunity for our people, protect healthcare access, and build safer communities. The people of District 60 are more than ready for strong women in leadership. Let’s send Alicia to Montgomery."
In the comment section of the post, he linked to a campaign video of Lumpkin’s and the link to make a contribution to her campaign before adding a comment, “Make a small donation here.”
Woodfin reposted his endorsement on Lumpkin's Facebook page as well.
According to her website, Lumpkin is a lifelong resident of Birmingham with over 17 years of experience serving the city.
She graduated from the University of Tennessee with a Bachelor of Science degree in marketing and logistics, and later earned a Juris Doctor from the Birmingham School of Law.
