The Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals affirmed the conviction of a Decatur chiropractor who tried to kill his wife by giving her pills filled with lead.
Brian Mann was convicted in June 2025 of attempted murder. His wife, Hannah Pettey, was hospitalized at UAB in 2022 when doctors discovered high levels of lead in her blood. Doctors notified the Hartselle Police Department, and investigators interviewed her in her hospital room.
Pettey said her husband told her the pills he was giving her would help strengthen her immune system. Investigators believe Mann planned to collect millions in the event of his wife’s death.
Pettey, who has since divorced Mann, has appeared on national true crime documentaries. She said she has forgiven Mann, but she is still battling health issues caused by the lead pills.
Mann is serving a life sentence in Limestone Correctional Center.
