The Decatur Police Department (DPD) has announced that members of its Vice/Narcotics Unit, Criminal Investigations Bureau, and Patrol Bureau executed a search warrant in the 1400 block of 1st Avenue SW on Thursday morning, in which a suspected illegal alien and two others were arrested.

While serving the warrant, law enforcement came into contact with and arrested Edwin Lorenzo Ramirez, Rolando Edwin Ramirez Vargus and Ana Ramirez Perez.

Authorities revealed the operation was the result of an almost two-month-long investigation into drug sales in Decatur. During a search of the residence, investigators discovered a large amount of opiate pills, multiple firearms and a large amount of U.S. currency. DPD said one of the firearms had been modified into a fully automatic handgun. An additional firearm was identified by the Huntsville Police Department as stolen.

According to the Morgan County Jail's inmate roster, Ramirez Perez is currently held on an ICE detainer, while known felon Lorenzo Ramirez is being held without bond after being found in possession of a firearm.

The charges for the three arrested and their corresponding bonds are found below:

  • Edwin Lorenzo Ramirez: Possession and Conversion of Pistol into Machine Gun and Certain Persons Forbidden to Possess a Firearm. Ramirez is being held with no bond per a Circuit Court Judge.
  • Rolando Edwin Ramirez Vargus: Drug Trafficking. Vargus is being held on a $100,000 bond.
  • Ana Ramirez Perez: Drug Trafficking. Perez was originally held on a $100,000 bond until her immigration status was discovered.

The U.S. currency and several suspect vehicles were determined to be proceeds from narcotics distribution. They were seized pending condemnation proceedings.

Additional charges are pending further investigation.
